MacCHESS Staff Scientist Job Opportunity

Cornell University, Ithaca, United States
Application deadline: 31 Dec 2025

The Cornell High Energy Synchrotron Source (CHESS) is seeking a creative, collaborative scientist to join the Flexible Macromolecular Crystallography (FlexX) and Extreme Biology (X-Bio) beamline team. This Ph.D.-level position offers a unique balance of hands-on user support and cutting-edge method development, serving a vibrant community of visiting researchers in structural biology.

At FlexX/X-Bio, scientists use state-of-the-art X-ray tools to study biological macromolecules under a range of challenging and innovative conditions. Current and emerging techniques include ambient-temperature and serial crystallography, high-pressure MX studies using diamond anvil cells, diffuse scattering to probe molecular motions in crystallo, and future development of time-resolved and dynamic MX methods.

The scientist in this role will provide direct experimental support at the beamline—helping users design and execute experiments—while also contributing to the development of new technologies and workflows that expand what’s possible with MX. The position also offers opportunities to collaborate across beamlines, including with the BioSAXS/X-Bio station, and to participate in interdisciplinary research spanning biology, physics, and materials science.

If you’re curious, inventive, and excited to work in a collaborative environment that blends science, technology, and discovery, we’d love to hear from you. To apply and for more information please click on their job webpage
