Postdoc and PhD positions in structural biology of organellar gene expression

University of Göttingen, Göttingen, Germany
Application deadline: 27 Feb 2026

UMG are currently inviting applications for a postdoc and a PhD student for their research group located at the University Medical Center Göttingen and the Max-Planck-Institute for Multidisciplinary Sciences in Göttingen, Germany.

Our team studies the structure and function of molecular machineries involved in gene expression in eukaryotic cells and organelles, such as mitochondria and chloroplasts. We combine structural biology (single-particle cryo-electron microscopy, X-Ray crystallography and cryo-electron tomography) with biochemical, biophysical and cellular approaches to dissect these processes from the atomic to the organellar scale. For examples on our research, see PMID: 3448960934135319384284343974748740050611 and 40240327.

We are a small and international team and are looking for enthusiastic, open-minded and ambitious team players to join us in our quest to understand mitochondrial molecular biology. In case of the postdoctoral position, we are particularly looking for someone with SPA and/or cryo-ET experience to drive forward challenging structural projects.
