View All Magnetic Resonance Techniques at Instruct
The NMR laboratory at the Scientific and Technical Center of the University of Barcelona (CCiTUB) is located within the Barcelona Science Park (PCB), a leading research hub in Southern Europe. The facility is part of the Spanish national infrastructure R-LRB and has recently joined the European network Instruct-ERIC, offering advanced NMR services to both expert and non-expert users.
The service provides access to high-field liquid-state NMR spectrometers (1.0 GHz, 800 MHz, and 600 MHz), equipped with cryoprobes and direct heteronuclear detection capabilities. These instruments support a wide range of applications in structural biology, drug discovery, and biologics characterisation, including the study of intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs).
While protein NMR is often considered a sophisticated technique, the facility offers guidance and support to users with varying levels of expertise. Local research groups and expert staff assist in experimental design, sample preparation, and data interpretation, helping researchers identify how NMR can address their scientific questions.
Direct 13C/15N detection for IDPs and high MW systems, overcoming proton exchange limitations.
Optimized for direct heteronuclear detection (13C and 15N), this instrument overcomes limitations caused by labile proton exchange in IDPs. It enables CON-type experiments with enhanced dispersion and visibility of residues like proline, which lack NH groups. Suitable for studying high molecular weight systems due to slower relaxation of heteronuclei.
Ultra-high field NMR for IDPs and complex biomolecules with exceptional spectral dispersion.
This 23.5 Tesla system offers exceptional resolution and stability, ideal for studying spectroscopically crowded systems such as intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs) or complex biologics. It enables rapid acquisition of multidimensional datasets using non-uniform sampling (NUS), allowing full assignment of 15N/13C-labeled proteins in 2–3 days.
Standard multidimensional NMR for protein-ligand interactions and comparative studies.
This 14.09 Tesla system is ideal for preliminary studies and routine biomolecular NMR applications. It also serves as a reference for comparative analysis with higher-field spectra, facilitating continuity between experiments performed at CCiTUB and those conducted in users’ home laboratories.
Reconstruction of multidimensional spectra acquired using Non-Uniform Sampling is offered as a dedicated service.
